On My Radar: Upcoming January 2018 K-Dramas
A New Year brings a new batch of K-Dramas to our screen. While there are many that have been announced to premiere in the first half of 2018, there are 5 upcoming January 2018 K-Dramas I’m planning on checking out.
1. “Radio Romance” / 라디오 로맨스 – Premieres January 29th on KBS2
Starring Kim So-Hyun and Yoon Doo-Joon (from K-Pop band Highlight), “Radio Romance” tells the story of a girl, Song Geu-Rim (Kim So-Hyun), who grew up listening to the radio with her mom who’s blind. Because of this, she became a radio program writer. However, the program is threatened to be cancelled until she hires actor Ji Soo-Ho (Yoon Doo-Joon).
“Radio Romance” is already a highly anticipated drama by many, and I can see why. It has all the makings of the perfect romantic comedy and the teasers look very promising!
2. “Return” / 리턴 – Premieres January 17th on SBS
Go Hyun Jung plays lawyer Choi Ja-Hye alongside actor Lee Jin Wook, portraying the detective, Dokgo Young. The two team up to solve a murder case that put elite class children at the center of the suspect list.
3. “My First Love” / “Longing Heart” / 애간장 – Premieres January 8th on OCN
“My First Love” is a time travel romance drama about a man, Kang Shin Woo (played by Lee Jung Shin), who travels back to when he was a high school student (younger self played by Seo Ji Hoon). He encounters his first love, Han Ji-Soo (played by Lee Yeol-Eum), and tries to help his younger self win her affections.
Only being 8 episodes, “Longing Heart” is great pick to throw in for a cute and easy drama to watch this month.
4. “Cross” / 크로스 – Premieres January 29th on tvN
“Cross” is a medical drama starring Go Kyung Pyo as Kang In-Kyu and Jeon So Min as Go Ji-In. Kang In Kyu is a doctor working at a prison medical center to get revenge on the one(s) that took his father’s life.
Not much else is really known about this drama yet. But, I’m expecting Go Ji In to be the doctor he works with and changes his attitude of wanting revenge. I could definitely be wrong, but that’s what I’m predicting. Either way, a medical show set in a prison is bound to have some intense and exciting drama.
5. “Grand Prince” / 대군 – Premieres in January on CSTV
“Grand Prince” follows the story of two brothers, the eldest Lee Kang (Joo Sang Wook) and younger brother Lee Whi (Yoon Si Yoon). They both love Sung Ja-Hyun, the daughter of a highly regarded family. Lee Kang wants the throne and Ja-Hyun, and will do anything to get them including killing his brother.
This is the drama I’m most looking forward to in January because of Yoon Si Yoon. While it seems he’ll be the secondary male lead (unfortunately), this historical drama sounds to be action and drama packed. And, it’s been way too long since I’ve watched a historical drama.
