On My Radar: Upcoming December Korean Dramas
2017 is coming to a close with a round of romance filled December Korean dramas across networks KBS, JTBC, MBC, and tvN. Check out the ones that are looking like contenders below:
1. “Just Between Lovers” / 그냥 사랑하는 사이 – Premieres December 11th on JTBC
Starring Lee Joon Ho as Lee Gang-Doo and Won Jin-A as Ha Moon-Soo (the main leads), “Just Between Lovers” tells the story of two people who come from tragic pasts. Lee Gang-Doo’s dreams of becoming a soccer play ends after being in an accident which killed his father years prior. While Ha Moon-Soo lives a life of guilt and suppressed feelings after surviving an accident that killed her younger sibling. The drama tells the story of their lives after their path’s cross.
2PM’s Junho looks great in the promo posters that have been released so far. I’ve never seen his acting work before, but 2PM is one of the bands that originally got me into K-pop so I must stay loyal and check this one out. Besides, the promos and teasers have me really intrigued to the storyline.
2. “Jugglers” / 저글러스 – Premieres December 4th on KBS2
“Jugglers” is a boss-secretary romance drama between Nam Chi-Won (Daniel Choi) and Jwa Yoon-Yi (Baek Jin-Hee). Nam Chi-Won is the aloof manager of a company who has no interest in other people/co-workers. He meets obedient secretary Jwa Yoon-Yi who is eager to impress and do a great job.
The plot sounds pretty standard and cliché, but the teasers below look really cute! I think this classic storyline can be good if done properly, so I will most likely be giving this one a chance at least.
3. “The Black Knight” / 흑기사 – Premieres December 6th on KBS2
Starring Kim Rae-Won as Moon Soo-Ho, a successful businessman who endured a troubled childhood, “The Black Knight” will be a supernatural romance drama. Moon Soo-Ho makes dangerous sacrifices for his love Jung Hae-Ra (played by Shin Se-Kyung), a travel agent that ironically has never traveled abroad.
I really enjoy Kim Rae-Won’s acting and I feel like this character will suit him perfectly. He seems to always bring that sweet charm to his characters that you just can’t help but love. The plot is very broad right now, so I’m not completely sold yet, but it’s one I’ll check out at some point if not when it airs.
4. “I’m Not A Robot” / 로봇이 아니야 – Premieres December 6th on MBC
This 16 episode romantic comedy stars Yoo Seung-Ho as Kim Min-Kyu, a successful man that isolates himself from the world because of his allergy to people. Kim Min-Kyu then meets Jo Ji-A (played by Chae Soo-Bin) whom is a woman pretending to be a robot. Watch the teaser here.
Another drama I will have to check out because the plot seems so different than anything I’ve watched before. I’m curious as to how Chae Soo-Bin will portray her human vs. robot characters, but from some set pictures, she can play a solid robot! Hoping this one turns out to be super good.
5. “Hwayuku/A Korean Odyssey” / 화유기 – Premieres December 23rd on tvN
“Hwayuku” is a drama based on a Chinese novel about monsters and adventures. The main character is Jin Sun-Mi (played by Oh Yeon-Seo), a human that has a task to complete with an array of companions. The main companion is a Monkey God known as Sun O-Gong (portrayed by Lee Seung-Gi), and the drama follows his story with Jin Sun-Mi and King Wooma (played by Cha Seung-Won).
This drama has an absolute knock-out cast and a great writing team with the Hong sisters, so I’m not sure how this drama could possibly be bad. Besides the three main leads mentioned above, Lee Hong Ki (F.T. Island member), Jang Gwang, Song Jong-Ho, Lee El, and Lee Se-Young are also starring in this drama. Personally, I’ll be checking out this drama just because this is Lee Seung-Gi’s first drama after returning from the military.
Which December drama are you most excited about? Any dramas you’re disappointed with?
