K-Pop Summer Playlist Review
When I think of summer, I think of happy, light, fun music you could play on a day at the beach. There have been so many great comebacks this summer. Here are my picks for the best K-pop Summer songs that have been on repeat over the past few months!
1. Red Velvet 레드벨벳 – “Red Flavor” 빨간 맛
“Red Flavor” was by far my favorite summer song. Not only was it super catchy, but it also had a great dance to go along with it. Honestly, their whole album, “Red Summer”, was awesome but this title track I just couldn’t stop listening to.
2. EXO – “Ko Ko Bop”
I mean…come on, this was so different than anything I’ve ever heard from them! I will admit I haven’t been the biggest EXO fan in the past. However, this comeback made me rethink everything. The video just screamed Summer with their Hawaiian/flowery clothes and vibe. Also, Kai and Chanyeol are by far my favorites in this comeback.
3. Girls’ Generation 소녀시대 – “Holiday”
Girls’ Generation was most likely one of the more anticipated comebacks for most people. It wasn’t for me, but I did really love their title song “Holiday.” SM Entertainment was killin’ it with the summer concept themes this year!
4. Monsta X 몬스타엑스 – “Newton”
I was not expecting to love this song as much as I did! Monsta X released “Newton” shortly after their “Shine Forever” comeback and nailed it. While they released an official MV for “Newton”, I prefer the behind-the-scenes version (shown below) because it shows off their personalities more. Also, I.M. and Shownu are perfect in this. 5. BLACKPINK – “As If It’s Your Last” 마지막처럼
Out of the big 3 entertainment companies, YG is by far my favorite. I will listen to anything they release, and I almost always love it. BLACKPINK’s comeback was no different. Even though I do prefer their previous songs, this was a nice change for them, especially for summer.
6. KARD – “Hola Hola”
Just hearing this song makes me feel like I need to be on a beach somewhere! I’m pretty upset that I’ll be missing them on their current US tour.
7. Jay Park 박재범 – “Yacht (Feat. Sik-K)”
8. ZICO 지코 – “Artist”
There’s nothing in the lyrics/video or concept that really make this a summer song. But, I just can’t stop dancing to it. It never fails to put me in a happy mood.
9. VOISPER 보이스퍼 – “Crush On You” 반했나봐
“Crush on You” is just a cute, simple song with the video to match.
10. Weki Meki 위키미키 – “I don’t like your Girlfriend”
Weki Meki’s debut impressed me more than I was expecting. The verses in this song aren’t as strong as I’d like, but the chorus more than makes up for it. I really loved the colorful concept and outfit choices for the video.
